“It’s an homage not only to the struggle that we all face in trying to decide what to do with our respective futures, but it’s also a vehicle for my love of old fashioned punk rock as well. This song is just a super fun ride.” Billy herring says. 

Rags to Riches came to Billy as part of a larger theme of leaving home to find yourself in a new place, surrounded by new people. 

“Well it’s rags to riches or so they say. Make no mistake I’ll pay my way. Better move up or it’s on your way tomorrow.” These lyrics invoke that working class sensibility that have always permeated Billy’s lyrics, whether it’s his going back to his punk roots or his latest acoustic rock offerings. 

“The song hit me all at once”, says Herring, “I just woke up out of a deep sleep one night, and all the music and lyrics came rushing out of me like a lightning storm of sound”. 

This release will be Billy’s debut single as a solo artist. That’s not to say he did everything entirely on his own. Billy has worked with his close network of musicians all over the world to make this work of art stand apart from anything else he has attempted.
